Saudi Team Stands Out with 6 Awards at the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad in the UK

Under the auspices of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (“Mawhiba”) and the Ministry of Education, the Saudi team excelled at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2024 in the United Kingdom in July.

Competing against 603 students from 104 countries, the team earned six awards

Competing against 603 students from 104 countries, the team earned six awards: one silver medal, four bronze medals, and one certificate of appreciation. Hadi Al-Aithan from Al-Ahsa won the silver medal, while Youssef Bakheet, Mohammed Rabie, Muath Al-Qahtani, and Ahmed Al-Shehri secured bronze medals. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi received a certificate of appreciation.

Amal Al-Hazzaa, Secretary-General of Mawhiba, congratulated King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for this national achievement. She also praised the students, their families, teachers, and education departments for their efforts. Al-Hazzaa highlighted the significance of this victory for the nation and expressed gratitude to Minister of Education Youssef Al-Benyan for his support. She acknowledged the partnership between the ministry and Mawhiba, emphasising their joint efforts to nurture talented students.

Saudi Arabia’s participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is part of the Mawhiba International Olympiad program, which collaborates with the Ministry of Education. This program, among 20 initiatives offered annually, provides advanced curricula and enrichment programs. Students in the program receive over 1,000 hours of training annually, guided by local and international experts.

With this achievement, Saudi Arabia’s IMO tally now includes 12 silver medals, 46 bronze medals, and 19 certificates of appreciation, totalling 77 awards.
